James Brown (bishop of Shrewsbury)

James Brown (11 January 1812 – 14 October 1881) was an English prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the Bishop of Shrewsbury from 1851 to 1881.[1]

Born in Wolverhampton on 11 January 1812, he was ordained to the priesthood on 18 February 1837. He was appointed the Bishop of the Diocese of Shrewsbury by the Holy See on 27 June 1851. His consecration to the Episcopate took place on 27 July 1851, the principal consecrator was Cardinal Nicholas Wiseman, Archbishop of Westminster, and the principal co-consecrators were Bishop William Wareing of Northampton and Bishop William Bernard Ullathorne of Birmingham.[1]

He died in office on 14 October 1881, aged 69.[1]
